Mirror Mirror On The Wall, Who’s The Silliest Of Them All?

Have you ever wondered why our “stress-o-meter” gets higher as we get older? Some circumstances have raised the bar so high that it becomes hectic mentally and on the physical body. Come on, let’s live a little! We all know the saying “ with age comes responsibilities”. Yes bills are constantly piling up, midterms are fast-approaching, you have to work till close tonight, there are thousands of reasons and I’m not telling you to ignore them. I’m simply suggesting that you take a mental vacation–a free one at that. It’s called googly faces. This exercise tricks the brain to thinking positively and will also calm your nerves. You deserve it right? You earned it so congrats!

Have you ever watched kids as they played? You may have noticed that they are the most free-spirited beings. They don’t have a care in the world! Why can’t we be like that? We are too busy and too serious as adults. Each of us has an inner child, so let’s bring it out!

My “play” for today is “googly faces”. It’s an effective method that I use as an actress to loosen up before I go on stage. It has helped in my everyday life as well, when i need a pick-me-up in the middle of the day. It’s simple and only takes a couple minutes. Go in front of a mirror and distort your face anyway you like. Explore your face. It’s more flexible than you think. See how far you can point your nose. How wide can your eyes get? Make crazy faces and convey different emotions. This is a great way to awaken your facial muscles and allow blood to flow freely throughout the face. It’s okay to laugh at yourself. That’s the point! Don’t judge yourself, just go with the flow.

Many actors and models spend a lot of time in front of the mirror making faces, as part of mastering their skills. So it’s not weird at all but it’s a big relief!

You want to know the best part about this vacation? You decide how long it’s going to last.
So take as much time out of your day as you can to unwind– five minutes, an hour, three hours- and make GOOGLY FACES!
